Poisonwood Bible thought it’s more complex than that and multiple characters react differently

That’s sort of Louis’ arc in “Interview with the Vampire.”

The Book of Strange New Things by Michael Faber, who is one of my favorite writers. It’s about faith and questioning of that faith, not necessarily loss of faith. It’s a really great story with lots to consider.
He also wrote The Crimson Petal and the White and Under the Skin. The latter being his best book, I feel.
