I'm working on writing my own book currently, and in there is an element of the house they live in having a 'presence'. I'm trying to figure out how to best illustrate that, so I'm looking to read books where the house is almost alive? Not like walking and talking, but an eerie discomfort that there's more to the space around you.
I've already read The Yellow Wallpaper and The Haunting of Hill House, and would really love more recommendations of either books or short stories!

“House of Leaves” by Mark Danielewski probably fits the bill.
