Genre-wise, looking for mostly realistic fiction with a myriad of internal/intergenerational conflict and maybe a hint of existentialism. For anyone who has watched Queen's Gambit on Netflix a few years back, the main character Beth to me is a good embodiment of what I consider stoic.
The female protagonist is ideally not the feisty type but more calculating, restrained.
Thanks in advance!

Vita Nostra might be up your alley. I feel like maybe she had a brief relationship with a classmate, but it’s definitely not the focus.
Two Girls Down by Louisa Luna—A crime novel like The Killing or Mare of Easttown, main character is a woman who specializes in finding kids and women that go missing. She is stoic and has a fantastic way of interrogating people—well worth a read. TW two missing girls.
