I'm writing a piece of fiction about two people in the music industry as a creative writing exercise. I'm looking for book recs on the music scene to help me build a fuller, more accurate picture.

The lead characters are an indie music journalist and a musician from an up-and-coming band. Set in Newcastle, Manchester, London. The key scenes take place in the 2000s (noughties).

I'm a big music fan, but my knowledge about how the industry works in general is patchy. The big streaming platforms weren't in full force in the noughties, so I'm interested about how we all consumed music differently then, and the role of journalists and music and style magazines etc. As I also want to build a more immersive sense of the scene for the band, e.g. what it's like to tour.

Any book recommendations that would help with my research please? Ideally that cover the 2000s, 1990s, 2010s, and various UK music scenes (indie, electro etc)

I'm already looking into Steve Lamacq's Going Deaf For A Living, and Meet Me In The Bathroom.

I'm interested in fiction, memoirs, factual.

    Thanks.
