Been reading some Jane Austen lately and the whole waiting game in Pride and Prejudice really got me hooked on this theme. Maybe try Persuasion too if you want something with more of that longing feeling
For something more modern I’d suggest The Time Traveler’s Wife – bit of a tearjerker but the waiting aspect is pretty central to whole story
