Hi book people,
I’m a 40-year-old woman with ADHD who has basically trained her brain on popcorn thrillers my entire life (you know, if no one is murdered by page 30, I start emotionally checking out).
BUT.
Two years ago I left a very dangerous 14-year relationship and had to rebuild my entire life from scratch. 0/10 experience, would not recommend, but I made it out, and I’m genuinely proud of that.
Now I’m in therapy, doing the whole “healing and becoming a person again” thing, and I’ve hit a weird point where I want to read something different. Not thrillers. Something with more emotional depth.
The problem: my attention span is still that of a caffeinated squirrel.
So I’m looking for books that are:
* NOT slow and meandering (I will simply perish)
* Emotionally gripping / psychologically engaging
* Hard to put down even without explosions or serial killers
Basically: I want to feel something *and* stay interested.
I’m open to anything, whatever you’ve got that made you go “oh damn.”
Give me your best shot ❤️

Maybe try “God of the Woods” by Liz Moore. It is categorized as a thriller I think, but it has incredible depth and character development.
Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series
SA Cosby has some great fast paced thrillers!
