I've noticed I really enjoy a specific kind of book that I'm struggling to describe.
They are funny, light, the MC has or builds up a close friend group and the interactions within that group are a large part of the book(s). I've realized I don't really care about the fighting, what I really enjoy is the interactions, the banter, the kookiness. I love the adventures, but I think it's more because of the material it provides to work with. Leveling Up is a good example of that as much of it takes place in or around the house, BoC has quite a bit around the farm. Preferably, I'm not concerned someone in the group is going to die.
Favorites that generally fit what I'm describing:
*The Unconventional Heros* series by LG Estrella (the Two Necromancers books) but oddly not the Attempted Vampirism series, it didn't hold my interest and I'm not really sure why
*Fred the Vampire Accountant* by Hayes
*Beware of Chicken* by CasualFarmer
*Leveling Up* series by KF Breene (Magical Midlife Madness)
*This Trilogy is Broken* by JP Valentine
*Dungeon Crawler Carl* by Dinniman – at least the early books, it does get heavier as the series progresses
*Meg Langslow Mystery* series by Donna Andrews – more a mixture of family, friends, and community
*Clockboys* by T Kingfisher – though preferably without all the communication issues
*Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy* even fits pretty well and so does *Howl's Moving Castle* and *I Ran Away to Evil* by Mystic Neptune.
I don't know if I should call it found family? I enjoyed *Murderbot Diaries*, but it doesn't really fit as Murderbot goes off on his own for a large part so the group interactions get lost. I see *Legends and Lattes* get mentioned a lot, but I didn't care for it, though I enjoyed *Cursed Cocktails* which is similar but a different author. *The Teller of Small Fortunes* technically fits but I was so bored I barely finished it. *House in the Cerulean Sea* was also meh for me. Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed *The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi* as well and it fits the pattern. Even the first *Cat Core* book fit well, the second is a bit heavy on the death.
This is what I mean that I've found this common thread but I can't quite articulate what it is.
Thank you for any help and suggestions!

Miss Fortune series by Jana DeLeon. It’s a bunch of chaos that’s funny as hell, but it’s also two old ladies talking a bunch of shit to each other.
The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
I feel like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews would fit this! It’s been a few years since I read it but I laughed out loud multiple times.
