I just started the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters thanks to the suggestion of someone here, and I love it! I'm reading like I'm a kid again! I'm already worrying about what I'm going to do when I finish the series so I thought I would ask for suggestions of similar books. What I love in this series is:
– style of writing (feels similar to Sherlock Holmes/Dickens which I loved as a kid, very descriptive and also clever and funny)
– female main character
– mystery that leans more toward adventure than puzzle

The Veronica Speedwell books by Deanna Raybourn are delicious mysteries that fit what you are looking for
You might also try Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock series, the first book is A Study in Scarlet Women.
