I loved fantasy books as a kid/middle schooler, but slowly fell out of love with the genre as my reading tastes matured because it seemed like all adult fantasy books are centered on battles, trying to either save or overtake the kingdom, political intrigue, military strategy, etc. I have zero interest in any of that.
What I would LOVE is a plot line that doesn’t involve any of that (or very little of that) in a high fantasy world with witches and dragons and other magical creatures. Adventure is okay, and brief scenes of, like, a character engaging in a short-lived sword fight would be okay. It doesn’t necessarily have to be cozy— some violence, sex, darker themes are all fine. My eyes just glaze over the second a fantasy army mobilizes.
Something like The Enchanted Forest Chronicles but for adults.
Any suggestions?
