I got gifted a mass market paperback by a family member about 10 years ago, which I never got around to reading and then unfortunately lost while moving. The author was touted on the book cover at being a "master of the twist ending", though I'd never heard of him before, The book was a collection of short stories by said author. From the picture on the back cover, the author themselves had a very exotic look, reminding me of a magician or of Max von Sydow as Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon (1980). I seem to remember him having a cane in the picture? Or a top hat? Or both.
Does this ring a bell at all with anyone? I know that's not much to go on. It was a mass market paperback with a modern cover, published probably between 2008-2017. I don't know if the author had any full length books or if he just focused on anthology series/short stories. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
