    1. Mary Roach for the Morbid – e.g., Stiff, all about cadavers.

Simon Winchester for concepts – e.g., Perfectionist for a history of precision, Land for a deep dive on concept of land division, ownership, claiming, naming, etc.

Cooked by Michael Pollan is one of my favorite nonfic books ever. It’s all about food, but hits science and anthropology and nutrition in a very human way that makes you want to try/appreciate more things.

I like reading pop science to explore the world. Here are two in that genre I really enjoyed:

The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery – about octopi and how freaking smart they are.

An Immense World by Ed Yong looks at the ways animals sense the world in ways we can’t even understand (like a dog’s sense of smell or an electric eel and the currents that pass though their body)

Another one I really liked is Because Internet by Gretchen McCulloch. It’s about how the internet has and will shape the way people talk and write and communicate. Informative and also quite funny!
