I'm a complete beginner with only basic knowledge and have never read a book on space science, astrophysics etc. However, I really want to get started and one of the recommendations that I got was "Astrophysics for people in a hurry" – however the reviews have been mixed. Should I start reading this or are there any other beginner's books that I can pick up so that I am overwhelmed?

Astrophysics for people in a hurry is one of my favorite simple introductions. It isn’t in-depth but will give you a broad overview/conceptual understanding of what astrophysics is and the vastness of space. I also think Neil deGrasse Tyson is great at simplifying complex topics.

In no way is this book going to be an educational level introduction, but it is an intro for the average person.

Either way, I really loved it. I’ve read the paperback a few times and listen to the audiobook once a year or so whenever I want to be reminded of how small and insignificant I am… but in a poetic and scientific kind of way.
