I’ve been thinking of switching up the kind of books I read lately. While I’ve enjoyed my usual thriller books, it’s starting to feel a bit repetitive and I want something new. It might be nice to explore different kinds of stories and see if I'll find then enjoyable.

    1. Ilona Andrews Innkeeper Chronicles –A magic Inn, space werewolves and vampires, a lot of really unique aliens, mystery, romance, action, a fun and humorous series

I haven’t read it myself yet but it’s on my shelf after seeing some rave reviews from fellow non-romantasy readers but I’ve heard the world building in The Winter King by C.L Wilson is amazing.

    3. I would go through some overlap of the three elements — fantasy, romance / smutty, or unapologetically not-heavy.

      E.g.

Cinder – is a retelling of cinderella, but outerspace. It’s got the prince but isnt in your face smutty. It’s light. It’s fantastic.

Emily Henry – her books are rom com / beach reads, and will warm you up to sexy times without *also* introducing wings and tails and stuff that can be alienating on top of a genre you already arent quite used to.

Tress of the Emerald Sea – literally zero smut, but a romantic quest that helps develop a comfort with female-centric fantasy.

Even Tamora Pierce – yes. It is totally YA. But it’s basically gateway Romantasy for 12 year olds (love triangles, kick ass girls coming of age.) It’s the PG book 50% of the romantasy hits are making rated X.

The Bear and the Nightingale is a nice on ramp too. Beautiful fantasy, good romance tension, but not so sexy you get awkward reading it if you arent used to it.

I am reading Road of Bones series now, and while there’s a smutty / romance heavy thread through, i can skip those sections if i’m not in the mood (i’m not always) and the book still makes sense.
