Not Revolutionary period, but Civil War: Lincoln in the Bardo by George Sanders. About the death of Lincoln’s son, and his son’s time in purgatory afterlife.

Rise to Rebellion and The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara; two books, first one is better IMO but obviously incomplete. I also really liked his Civil War books that he wrote after his father wrote The Killer Angels.
Erik Larson also writes excellent books about major events including wars that read like fiction but are nonfiction. I don’t think he’s written about the Revolution though.

You might like Rise to Rebellion by Jeff Shaara. It’s very immersive and follows multiple perspectives around the start of the American Revolution, so it feels both personal and historical at the same time.
