I am looking for a novel with a similar vibe to the films listed above – basically, neurotic protagonists facing false accusations or a constant all-consuming feeling of guilt, an outer world that feels hostile or confusing to the protagonist, and a constant nagging anxiety/paranoia that escalates over the course of the novel. Sometimes I get nightmares where I've been accused of a crime I'm not aware of, and I'm on the run. I want something that captures that feeling!
I'm open to any genre, but especially thrillers, litfic, and satire. Surreal elements and female protagonists are a huge plus, but not 100% necessary. thanks!
