I've read about 60 pages of it and I'm conflicted. The prose (in translation) is growing on me but it does seem slow, and I don't have that much patience for writers explicitly writing about writers writing (or not writing, or wishing they were writing or had written).

based on the Wikipedia-level summary of what it's like and what goes on in it, it sounds like exactly my kind of thing. I do wonder if the style is going to become monotonous over 600+ pages, since it's ostensibly a journal by one narrator/protagonist.

    1. I read it last year, it was the best thing I read last year and one of the best things I’ve ever read, I thought it was incredible.

It was very difficult to follow at first, weird and slow, but that ended up not mattering, I think I was maybe 1/4 of the way in before I really started to gel with it, though I liked it well enough from the off.

Although I loved it I’ve not recommended it to anyone other than my wife because I don’t think I know anyone else who would read it. I can definitely understand that some people would not like it at all.
