I resently watched ”Ever After” (1998) and i really loved the setting and the overall vibe so I would like to read some books similar to it. They don’t necessarily have to be historically correct, just inspired by the middle-ages or renaissance and I don’t mind of there is magic or romance but I’m not in to the TikTok ”romantacy” kind of fantasy books. Any suggestions?

    1. The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno Garcia. One of my favorites because it reminds me of my childhood favorite movies like Ever After and Mirror Mirror. A quirky little historical fiction romantic drama with a touch of magic.

*Three Hearts and Three Lions* by Poul Anderson – He’s best known for his science fiction and this story DOES have a bit of time travel in it. The main action is roughly during the time of Charlemagne, not the current one.

If you can get past her history, then Marion Z. Bradley’s *Avalon* series is an excellent read. It’s the Arthurian legend as told by the WOMEN involved

*The Name of The Rose* by Umberto Ecco – a murder mystery set in a medieval/renaissance monastery. Alternatively you can look for the movie of the same name starring Sean Connery.

If you want more of a fantasy feel, look at the *500 Kingdoms* series by Mercedes Lackey. They’re retelling of many familiar fairy and folk tales from all across Europe. The first is *The Fairy Godmother*

Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay is fantasy that closely parallels Spain just after the fall of Córdoba.
