Hi everyone, I’m trying to find a novel I read a while ago, but I don’t remember the title or character names. I didn’t finish it, and I’d really like to find it again.
Here’s what I remember:
- The story is about a head mafia boss who has several “underbosses” or men under him
- He saved one of them when he was a kid from an abusive mafia father (this is mentioned briefly, not the main plot)
- He later arranges marriages for them with abused / non confident girls from other mafia families
I think the book is structured in parts, with 3 separate stories, each focusing on a different couple. The stories don’t really overlap.
One of the stories (first one) includes:
- An older male lead (around 30–40)
- He’s forced into an arranged marriage with a much younger girl from another mafia family
- The girl was neglected and abused growing up, especially compared to her sister who was treated like a princess
- After marriage, the husband brings her to his house but mostly ignores her and focuses on mafia work
- He’s not abusive, just distant and thinks she’s too young for him
- She wasn't affected by it, found it peaceful and just spends her time reading and maybe swimming, just adapting to her new life
Important detail I remember:
- She always had a guard assigned to her
- Over time, she starts getting closer to that guard
- I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I think there may have a one time kiss between them (initiated by the guard)
- Later, the husband finds out and shoots the guard in the head (maybe because he was a spy or for that, I’m not 100% sure)
Also:
- I think the head mafia boss was pushing them to have an heir, which started changing the dynamic between the couple (i mean he even started getting closer to the girl to make the husband jealous)
There’s only one male lead per story, not multiple love interests
