Hi everyone!
I’m looking for book recommendations and hoping you can help me put a name to the kind of fantasy I enjoy.
I think what I’m after is something like “classic” or “traditional high fantasy” with a lighter, more uplifting tone—maybe even something close to cozy or hopeful fantasy, but still with real adventure and stakes.
Some examples of the vibe I’m chasing:
The Hobbit by Tolkien
Zelda: A Link to the Past (not a book, but the atmosphere fits perfectly)
Some King Arthur-style stories
Magic: The Gathering’s Lorwyn/Morningtide type setting
What I’m really looking for:
- A whimsical, adventurous world (dragons, magic swords, fae, enchanted forests, small villages, etc.)
- A tone that leans hopeful, charming, and uplifting, even if there’s danger or darker moments
- A story where the world isn’t constantly on the brink of apocalypse—more adventure than grim survival
- That feeling of wonder and discover, like you’re traveling through a beautiful, magical world
I’m totally fine with adult elements (romance, darker themes, even tragedy), as long as the overall feeling isn’t bleak or depressing. Ideally, I want to finish the book feeling happy and immersed, like I just went on a great journey.
I know this is a bit vague, but I’d really appreciate any recommendations—or even better terms to describe this niche!
Thanks in advance
Edit: I normally read darker world fantasy. Some books that I have really enjoyed include The Briar King by Greg Keyes (and sequels), The Warded Man by Peter V Brett (and sequels), multiple warhammer fantasy (guinevere, matthias thulman witch hunter, gotrek and felix), The Lies of Locke Lamora by scott lynch. If that helps at all

This this fits like 50% what you’re looking for only, but it popped in to my head and I couldn’t not recommend.
Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan – 6 shortish stories combined in to 3 books, also 6ish prequel stories and a few novellas. He has like 2 other series set in the same world, I’ve only read one of those books, which may fit your request better. I liked the original series the best though
