I’m looking for a Modern Jane Eyre – A story about a smart woman who has her problems, but knows her own worth and never sells herself short.

A good example of this might be Taylor/Missy from The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.

I like how, in both of those books, these women are not immune to love or romantic passion, but men are not the solution to their problems. It's about how they find their own way in life.
