My eleven year old daughter is obsessed with love stories. She is dyslexic but still loves reading and listening to audiobooks. It’s just about finding books that she wants to read and that hook her early on (otherwise she won’t give a book much of a chance). I have zero experience with the romance genre at any age range. So I’m hoping y’all can help!
She tends to like contemporary stories more so than fantasy, sci-fi, etc. and she loves a nerdy protagonist. The more drama the better. Books don’t have to be solely romance focused but it probably does need to be a significant focus.
She prefers female protagonists or dual narrator stories. But I bet she’d consider the right book with a sole male protagonist. LGBT protagonists and romances are welcome.
Graphic novels and young adult or even clean adult novels are okay! They just obviously need to be on the cleaner side due to age. Books don’t have to just be middle grade themed.
Her favorite books right now are the Dungeons and Drama books by Kristy Boyce. She’s listens to both of them several times now and we have the next one pre-ordered. She loves the Twilight movies but hasn’t read the books. I’m not sure that the Princess Diaries has much romance (I never read them as a kid) but she hasn’t been able to get through the first one.
