Going through my list of highly-recommended classics and oh man, I can't stomach another "witty" monologue with the occasional drop of the n-word. Given today's climate, I'm really not in the mood for ✨nuance✨ or whatever.

What well-written classics would you recommend?

Some books I kind of enjoyed but had to drop:

    • The Stand by Stephen King
    • Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
    • The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
    • Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
    • Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace

What counts as a ‘slur’? I’d recommend The Talented Mr Ripley but there’s an early scene where he wonders if a guy is a ‘pervert’ (in context this clearly means gay, and Ripley would much rather he was a ‘pervert’ than a cop) and a later scene where Dickie asks Ripley if he’s queer.

Use one of the “parent’s guide to movies” sites to check if there’s any profanity or other content you would find objectionable.
