A few days ago, I read Dinner for Vampires by Bethany Joy Lenz (a wonderful book by the way!). As usual, the cult leader was a man, and it wasn't the first book I've read with a male cult leader. But I haven't read any books, fiction or nonfiction, about a cult led by a woman. I'm open to either fiction or nonfiction books with either a female cult leader and/or a cultish female group. Any suggestions?

For nonfiction, consider Daniella Mestyanek Young’s *Uncultured*, about being raised in The Children of God cult. Young is a scholar of cults, and you will learn that cult leaders are usually male but have a “skinny white woman” legitimizing their leadership. Read also Young’s *The Culting of America*. Other nonfiction works on cults include Tara Westover’s *Educated*; Miscavege- Hill and Leah Remini also wrote books about their experiences in cults.
