I got back into reading about 10-15 years ago when I discovered Extra Credits Extra Scifi – a fantastic series that got me through depression and which led me to read Frankenstein and embark on a decade of joyous scifi reading and figuring out subtext, and researching the authors and reflecting on my own interpretations and meanings of scifi books that would make my English teachers proud.

But, it’s now been a few years since i have really found the passion of reading.in quite the same way.

I am not beholden to scifi now, but I’d love some pointers on absolute page-turners with significant meaning. I loved Fahrenheit 451, A Brave New World, Enders Game, Roadside Picnic (loved the writing scifi to communicate outside of the state using an allegory) and of course Frankenstein, and also Pillars of the Earth, Lord of the. Flies, A Farewell to Arms and 100 Years of Solitude. So I guess…anything goes?

I’m not interested in books that make me sound intelligent, haha. Maybe I am a bit basic, but it has to be an actual good story and not “ooo fancy political subtext”. Also love British authors (Im British and find them easier to relate to) but a good story is a good story.

Please send help and good books.
