Hello, I have found myself in quite a reading slump and I want to find a book to read that will un-slump me. I love the genre of books that is long stories spanning many years and involving many people, or following a main character over a long time. Some examples I quite liked are Louis De Bernieres’ Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and Tania James’ Loot, as well as Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits which I have read about half of and then unfortunately couldn’t finish and don’t have access to the book anymore. I would also classify Gregory Maguire’s Wicked in this genre and I liked that book too. Basically I just want details and deep characterisation and lots of happenings. Preferably a standalone.
I read all genres so not picky about that!
Also, I know Elena Ferrante’s My Brilliant Friend is a series of this genre but I really don’t want to commit to a whole series right now.
