I just finished Open Wide and I absolutely loved it! I think it as the perfect mixed of intriguing and complex as well as thought provoking. I’ve been in such a slump for reading because I haven’t been able to get into anything but I loved the complicated and flawed personality of the main character, as well as how Gross incorporated sexual themes in her book. She’s great at painting visuals for her readers, without sounding tired or “corny” for a lack of a better term haha.
I just loved that every choice the characters made had me thinking further about what exactly it was she was trying to say through a different scenario. It felt like a very “read between the lines” kind of book, and the psychological adult themes were so refreshinggg. It wasn’t gory without purpose you know? But it didn’t feel like an average young adult romance novel which I think I might just be growing out of. It felt like everything the protagonist said or described, she said because it was in character to do so, not just for shock value.
I suppose I’m just trying to find a book that’s willing talk about more graphic themes, but with purpose! Like a lesson or point to be made, and that has a really descriptive author. I don’t mind either a male or female perspective, I just really want something similar in tone to her book Open Wide if possible (currently ordering Hysteria online because I’m in love with her writing style)! 😊
Thank you in advance!💗
