I typically enjoy young adult literature – *Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Gallant, The Whatnot* – because it's not as dense and drawn-out as stuff aimed at an older audience. So I still would like a fantasy, but something a little zestier for the weekends. My guidelines:
● Graphic romance/sexy times desired, but with a decent storyline
● Female authors preferred (no characters that "breasted boobily down the stairs")
● Well-written and proofread
● No werewolf/vampire/zombie smut. We've all seen those painfully cringey ads – no thanks!
● No fanfic – I'm not interested in reading about Harry and Hermione going at it.
● An actual book I can hold in my hands
Hopefully this isn't asking for too much! 😅

Thank you for all the suggestions so far – I've looked up every one suggested! Consort of Fire and Phantasma piqued my interest the most, so that's what I've ordered first. They all sound pretty interesting, though, so we'll see if this becomes my new favorite genre.

My first experience with spicy fantasy was Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey
It would work as a straightforward fantasy novel about political intrigue in an alternate version of medieval France. If you’re at all familiar with Guy Gavriel Kay, that kind of thing including similar depth of philosophy and character development.
The viewpoint character is a professional masochist and this series is the reason I own enough rope to legally register the bedroom as a sailboat.
This Gilded Abyss by Rebecca Thorne. Somewhere between Arcane (netflix series) and Bioshoock (game). It start military fantasy, but heads toward horror, enemies to lovers, and some very well written scenes.
Consort of Fire and Queen of Dreams by Kit Rocha
Daughter of Tides and Prince of Storms by Kit Rocha.
Ilona Andrews has several fantasy series that are all explicit sex scenes but also well written plot + interesting characters.
Unnatural Magic by C.M. Waggoner (gender role reversal, half orc female MC)
Dire Bound by Sable Sorensen! Straightforward world building/writing style with a good bit of spice throughout. The second book comes out in a few weeks!
Phantasma?
The Game In Yellow by Hailey Piper
I’ve been reading the Ashen trilogy and really enjoying it. Not super spicy, but there is some in book 2. Fantasy based on Icelandic folklore.
