I just finished the Winter Sea trilogy by H.M. Long, and before that I read the Thieves duology by M.J. Kuhn, and I’m looking for what to read next.
I like books with multiple POVs, morally grey characters , ation mixed with some comedy, and spice is fine but not really a priority. I’m also a sucker for pirates and criminal underworld-type stuff.
I’m still pretty new to fantasy, so don’t worry about recommending stuff that’s super popular—I probably haven’t read it yet.
(also, I want to get into the sci-fi genre, but have no idea where to start)

For criminal underworld stuff you should definitely check out Gentleman Bastard series – it’s basically fantasy Ocean’s Eleven with thieves pulling elaborate cons in Venice-like city.
I recommend Vengeance and Honour by Ben Dixon and its sequel, Honour and Blood. They have adventure, humour and fast action. The second one had more of the morally grey and thieves guild side to it. Very good!
Substack’s The Next One Piece (thenextonepiece [dot] substack [dot] com) – been my latest obsession tbh and fits exactly what you re looking for, scratches that pirates + power struggles + found-family chaos itch with really layered charcters and shifting loyalties, super morally grey characters, multiple POVs (my fave is CFO from Hell’s POV)
Six of Crows – criminal crew heist vibes, multiple POVs, morally grey chaos, and just enough humour to keep it fun while still getting emotional gut punches
Red Rising – if you wanna dip into sci-fi, this is the easiest gateway IMO, starts brutal and simple then explodes into politics, rebellion, and betrayals that feel very fantasy-coded
