Looking for a book rec to share with my niece! They're 14(x), I'm turning 30(m), and we're both openly queer. Nothing explicit but they're not too sheltered so can handle some older themes – I also don't mind reading YA.
They absolutely love the Percy Jackson / Rick Riordan world (I did too when I was their age!). I'm thinking of suggesting Carmilla, as I think the shorter length would be a bit draw. Looking for other suggestions so maybe we can find a book to read together long distance!
Would also take book suggestions that a long distance family can read together!
Mum (F,60+) – fan of thrillers (GWTDT) and John Grisham, nature/scientific books
sibling (F,40+) – fan of civil/social rights non-fiction but will explore
me (M,30) – looking to branch out – fan of Pratchett and novelizations
nephew (M,16) – fan of horror (Stephen King)
niece (X,14) – fan of hopecore, fan of queer stories/history
We're all pretty avid readers but can struggle with our attention spans, so shorter chapters or anthology stories might help? Definitely don't hold off longer recs though!! Big fans of David Sedaris type humor – open to fiction or non-fiction!

Cemetery Boys, Aiden Thomas – love this book, never see it suggested anywhere, and since you mentioned YA – I think this is a great pick.
