Hi everyone! I’m looking for book recommendations based on some of my recent favorites.
I tend to gravitate toward dark, psychological reads, especially ones that dive into trauma, complicated female characters, and intense emotional themes. I don’t mind if it leans into horror or is a bit extreme, as long as it’s well-written and gripping.
Some books I’ve loved:
- Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter
- The Only One Left by Riley Sager
- The Push by Ashley Audrain
- My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
- The Summer I Died by Ryan C. Thomas
- Verity by Colleen Hoover
I’m open to:
- Psychological thrillers
- Dark literary fiction

I Who Have Never Known Men (Moi qui n’ai pas connu les hommes) – Jacqueline Harpman
It’s not a thriller, but it is about a dark dystopian world.
Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler. Incredibly bleak, but not without hope.
The Mirror Empire by Kameron Hurley. Epic fantasy with mostly female characters. This is a *very* long book, first in a trilogy of monstrous tomes, but I thought it was good.
Slow River by Nicola Griffith
The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey
Womb City by Tlotlo Tsamaase
The Continuous Katherine Mortenhoe by D. G. Compton. Not especially dark, but I thought the characters and the prose were beautiful.
Animal by Lisa Taddeo is exactly what you describe and the writing is amazing.
