So I have been searching for a book for my best friend‘s birthday and she is difficult with books ( philology major ) . I am looking for something stand alone or generally not having to start a whole series , that is low stakes and low commitment. She has books on her bookshelf that are series or overwhelming for her to start ( like six of crows , cruel prince , the night circus , atlas six ) because of exam season so I want to buy her something she would want to read and finish quickly , she is a fast reader
A little thing about her she is perfectionist ,really righteous, honest , soft and passionate , creative and a dreamer and she analyses books a lot
Preferably I want it to be fantasy , I don’t want it to be in our world or modern. She really likes the found family trope and she likes flawed characters . She is soft and like a princess so nothing dark or too much and absolutely please no smut . Her favourite books are Once upon a broken heart and Caraval series . She likes magic , maybe something diverse would be nice , she likes witches , fairytales , sirens and not so much the dragon , warrior , elf stuff. The magic system or world building doesn’t have to be unique but there has to be a charming element that makes that book different in its core , she doesn’t read books for the trope at all , she doesn’t want book similar to others . She doesn’t like romantasy at all or too “ cosy read” books that are almost “braindead” but she likes romance as a subplot .
the only modern books she likes is loveless and every other book of the author and also the a good guide girls to murder series .
The MOST important thing is , I have found books that are her vibe and likeness but they are not on my list because they don’t fit the biggest criteria . It has to be well written . Like think of Stephanie Garber . Sure she lacks sometimes in plot or analysing world building because of the plot holes but the dialogue and descriptions are so well written because she is a professional with a big editing team . Beautiful descriptions are appreciated and nice vocabulary like Stephanie , her books are hard to put down because it rolls when you read , it is grammatically almost perfect , her wording is natural and on point . it doesn’t have to be complicated just good writing and editing is so so important even if it simple . Like I have started The tales of Arcana Fortuna and although the premise is cute , the writing is so messy because it’s self published ( good for the author to do this on their own though it takes courage and passion ) and I couldn’t even read half a page , the dialogue was.corny and it was written like a fanfiction
like I know books like uncharmed or the teller of small fortunes or the very secret society of irregular witches sound good but I’m so afraid the writing will make it impossible to read or it will be tiring to read because it will lack originality . I want , you know when a book is good it’s GOOD you want to eat it ( metaphorically)
Please and thank you if you have something to recommend me because I have been searching so much but I am afraid she won’t like anything 💕💕
