I don’t want a non fiction historical book necessarily, just a story that takes place in/during the war. Doesn’t have to be just about the women in the war either. Any you can suggest that really stuck with you?
Non-fiction: Across the Fence and On the Ground, both by John Stryker Meyer

Build Your House Around My Body by Violet Super Smith takes place in Vietnam, in part during or around the war. Most of the threads are centered around women. I haven’t read The Women but I have read several of Hannah’s other books so I am familiar with her vibe, and Super Smith’s vibe is pretty different and much weirder. But I was captivated by this book and it shows in (I think) really interesting ways how colonization, war, and instability affect a region in obvious and subtle ways.
