Idk man I picked it up because I really wanted to read the Iliad but I’m just not enjoying it and idk if that makes me sound dumb but I just can’t. I managed to reach about halfway through the narrative and it’s just a lot of things I truly do not care about. I hated all of the overextended similes and melodramatic speech and I just don’t care for the war in general. I will say though I did appreciate some aspects of the writing style (obviously partly the work of translation shoutout Emily Wilson) and I liked all the scheming of the gods because it felt so human and is just so different from the way I usually think about gods (shoutout Christian upbringing) but the overall narrative just wasn’t engaging enough to keep me going. It’s unfortunate because it’s heralded as such a pinnacle of literature and I really wanted to enjoy it.
