I’m just finishing up Trudi Canavan’s The Magician’s Guild. It was… fine, I guess. I wasn’t super impressed with the characters or the story. It was just okay.
That being said, my favorite parts of the book were the mentorship relationship the main character had with one of the older magic guys. Mentorship tropes and ‘adopted’ parental figures have always been my favorite.
Does anyone have any really good books with mentor figures? My favorite books with really great mentors (like Name of the Wind or the Poppy War) always end up having very minimal contact with these very wise or eccentric but super interesting characters, and always leaves me wishing there was more. I don’t have any genre preference so fire away!
