I liked Incidents Around the House because every chapter something bad or weird happened and it wasn't just for the sake of something happening. Most horror I read consists of mostly buildup, and it doesn't work for me anymore. I'm desensitized to horror so reading hundreds of pages to discover a simple plot twist or a character death or a typical monster is very frustrating. I really enjoyed the near end of Sharp Objects but the parts I enjoyed didn't last long enough before I got the ending I partly predicted
