Good morning! This has bothered me for *years*. There’s a book I first read in either 2012 or 2013 which I cannot remember the title of.

Here’s my best description of the details:

    – The main protagonist is a young (imagine early to mid 20’s) woman living in NYC.

    – The book could maybe be set in the 80s or 90s

    – An opening scene involves her going downstairs to her local bodega and ordering a sandwich or bagel on credit, there’s drama because she hasn’t paid in awhile.

    – It’s heavily implied that her father is wealthy and will pay the bodega debt.

    – A wardrobe staple is the button down shirts of various men she’s slept with.

    – She has a roommate/ close female friend who she thinks is a major cokehead (she’s also lowkey a cokehead but not AS MUCH , you know?)

    – Towards the ending of the book all of her friend group travels together to the Kentucky Derby on a whim to wear funky hats and do more coke (apparently they’re all rich kids).

Here’s my best description of the physical book:

It was relatively small, paperback, could easily be under 300 pages. The book cover art was white or off white with Kelly Green pinstripes (I believe one of her favorite stolen shirts had green pinstripes) , and matching green text.

Typing all this out, it wouldn’t seem this novel had all that many redeeming qualities but as a summer read there was something I really liked about it. I just wish I could remember what!

The vibes were very “Sophie Kinsela but make it Spiritually Corrupt”.

Thank you for your help 🩷
