Say for example, a trilogy was called Big Fart Adventures, and the first book was called Shidding All Night, I assume you'd place this series in the B section and not S, but is it not a bit of an aesthetic bummer to have a bunch of books with names that don't start with B going here?

Does anyone use anything to try and patch over this? Maybe some straps that hug all books in the collection, with the overarching name on it? Maybe place a sticker somewhere?

    1. Alphabetise by author. All of Bobby Poot’s *Big Fart Adventure*s are shelved together in ‘P’, from *Shidding All Night* to *Unending Stains*.

    2. I hate everyone on this thread, lol.

But yes, I’d just organize by author, either first or last name.

    3. I put series books together based on the name of the name i most instantly recognize it by. IE: Game of Thrones is book 1 of A Song of Ice and Fire, but colloquially the first thing I think of is Game of Thrones, so it gets filtered in “G”.

The first non-prequel book in LOTR is “The Fellowship of the Ring,” but everyone thinks “LOTR,” so it gets sectioned under L.”

Essentially, it’s my bookcase, and I do what best fits my aesthetic line of thinking.

    4. This is exactly why I could never make an alphabetized (by title) shelf work. My brain dislikes absolutely every organizational permutation because they all find ways to compromise the very core of alphabetization in the first place.

Alphabetized by author, sure (I don’t do it personally, but I understand the upsides). Alphabetized by title? Big no from me.

I’ve only seen things alphabetized by author, to keep all books in a series together regardless of title.

I think organizing by author is the only way to realistically avoid the issue you’re running into

    6. I organize by author last name, and would organize stand-alone books alphabetically within that authors section, and books in a series by book order (unless the order doesn’t matter, like a non-fiction book series).

If the book series is by different authors, I would still keep the series together.
