I just finished PHM, and overall liked it a lot. I love the heavy science aspects being an biomedical engineer, but I didn’t love the pacing towards the end of the book nor the ending itself that much but I was satisfied. I want to continue this new habit but I know that if it isn’t the right book I am just going to leave it. I have been going back and forth with AI trying to find recommendations and it’s come down to dark matter, recursion, the westing game or the count of monte cristo, which are all over the spectrum of books. I like sci fi but when I was younger I also loved mystery books, so I’m kinda lost on what to read next and I feel like I’m blocked from picking because I feel too much pressure. Any recommendations would help

Very addictive series – Cradle by Will Wight. I would suggest it because they are fast, easy and satisfying and overall easy to use to build a solid reading habit. Action heavy, martial arts based. Good mystery, the 7 1/2 Deaths of Evylyn Hugo. Really interesting spin on the mystery genre. Insanely good scifi – the expanse series. Complex world building. Very grounded as far as sci fi goes.

    2. I’d suggest checking out Leviathan Wakes, the first book in The Expanse series. The first book is half space opera, half detective noir, so if you like sci-fi and mysteries it might be for you.

    3. Hyperion. The day of the Jackal. The house of the spirits. The eye of the needle.

All bangers that are hard to put down. If youre afraid to put a book down don’t start the count just yet..

Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis.  Also involves a human scientist making contact with alien life and is very well written.

You can’t go wrong with Sherlock Holmes for mystery.  Most of the stories are short stories and all are public domain, so it’s not much of an investment to test the waters to see if you like them.

Blake Crouch is a good suggestion, I’d give those books a shot. Very mind bendy and mysterious. Both Dark Matter and Recursion were really good.
