Just trying to learn about what kind of footprint humanity is leaving on the world, but particularly from an industrial origin point through technical language, even if it’s complex. I will accept academic books, even journals and articles.

When it comes to pollutant effects on nonhumans, I’m thinking of mutation, defects, ecological disaster, and species turned toward extinction, or even adaptation as we’ve seen with certain mushroom species.

    Thanks in advance!

Some of these include more than just the pollution angle, but all include a lot of information about those aspects, and may provide a good jumping-off point if you want to go deeper into specific specific sites/industries:

“Material World” by Ed Conway is about materials, but includes a good amount of information about the impacts of extracting those materials. This fits your “what kind of footprint humanity is leaving on the world” question.

“Islands of Abandonment” by Cal Newport is about sites that have been abandoned for various reasons (industrial pollution, wars, chemical weapons, and economic changes) and what happens afterwards. This addresses the ecological/adaptation aspects.

“Five Past Midnight in Bhopal” by Dominique Lapierre is about one of the largest ever industrial disasters, at an American-owned pesticide plant in India. This is site- and industry- specific, but a well-written account of how awfully things can go wrong, and be made worse if not managed properly.
