Hello guys, I am new here (and relatively new to books).
So I ordered these two books a week ago by Reddit recommendation East of Eden by John Steinbeck and The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. Amazon being Amazon, delivered only EoE and misplaced TCoMC. They although refunded the money and I thought of again placing the order for the same book. But before placing order, I opened Reddit and Quora and though of seeking general public opinion of TCoMC. Everyone on internet mentioned it's a slow burn and hard literature. As being a (relatively) new reader, I thought that I might not get the feel of this book and hence get confused.

Should I buy it back or I should read something else. If something else, please suggest me some books. I am going to mention some of the books I have read and will rate them according to how much I liked/disliked them so that might help you to suggest me appropriate books.

    • The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkein (10/10)
    • Yellowface by R.F. Kuang (7/10)
    • The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden (7/10)
    • Short Stories *by Franz Kafka (*All Averaged 9/10)
    • Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift (7.5/10)

I am halfway reading East of Eden and liking it a lot. Please suggest me some books that will keep me on the hook and not bore me much.

yeah you should definitely get it back, Monte Cristo is amazing once you get into it. I was intimidated at first too but the revenge plot keeps you hooked throughout – it’s not really “hard literature” just longer than what you’re used to

based on your ratings you seem to like adventure and compelling characters which Monte Cristo has in spades. maybe try something shorter first if you want to build up confidence though, like some Agatha Christie mysteries or adventure novels
