I had a best friend for maybe 5 years who I loved dearly. We always called each other and talked for 6 hours or so at a time while we ran errands or did other stuff. We were always there for each other and we both said we didn’t think there would ever be a time we would stop being friends. Out of the blue she told me we were growing apart and didn’t think we should continue being friends. It hurt a lot especially because I never really understood why. Growing apart is one thing, it’s natural and gradual and happens to everyone. Intentionally and an abruptly burning a bridge you spent years building with someone is another.

This happened a while ago but I recently watch Banshees of Inisherin and it all hit me again, the absurdity and loss the main character feels over someone important wanting to just walk out of his life because he just doesn’t like him anymore. His confusion and hurt cut deep.

I’m wondering if there’s any books with this same feeling? A mix of Camus absurdity and lack of answers but also about female friendship and loss?

    Thanks in advance
