Hi all,
I'm doing a fun book exchange with my book club. We were each anonymously and randomly assigned a person to pick a book for. At our next meeting, we'll share the recommendations, and for the meeting after that, we'll each share about the book that was picked for us. Exciting! At least, we think so 🙂
The person I was assigned likes (in no particular order) historical fiction, romance, and thriller/suspense. We're trying to keep it under 400 pages.
What book(s) do you suggest? Thanks in advance!

Frozen River
The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden is a bit of all three, although slower paced so not a heart-racing thriller.
I just finished All the Colors of the Dark and it was incredible. It’s described as a “character driven thriller” – it follows several characters who are tracking down a serial killer and his victims between the 1970s and 90s and it was really beautifully written.
Once We Were Brothers by Ronald H Balson
Code Name Helene or The Book Spy
You could also go with Sigma’s Covenant.
It leans more into suspense and underlying tension, with themes of secrets, power, and hidden truths. If they enjoy stories that slowly unravel and keep you guessing, this kind of pick fits really well especially if you want something a bit different from the usual historical romance choices.
