I've been really into media that has queer protagonists lately, but I have never liked High fantasy books very much, and a lot of my options seem to be High fantasy. I don't usually like romance books, I just like romance IN my books. I want action and plot too. It's frustrating because you'll find tons of books with straight protagonists who go on epic adventures, and they get a love interest, and the book won't even be considered a romance. It's just there. The guy and the girl. That's just what happens. The best book I have found for this was Together in a Broken World which is a zombies book with gay protagonists. I really want to find more like it, any recommendations? I'll take a sci-fi if I have to, but I've already tried Bonds of Brass.

Alice Isn’t Dead by Joseph Fink! A trucker traveling a nightmare version of the US in search of her missing wife.
The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown is an Alien-esque horror that has a lesbian protagonist, although the story is definitely heavier on the adventure and lighter on the romance.
Also Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki, about a violin professor trapped in a faustian bargain who falls in love with a stranded starship captain posing as a human.
