I think personally my favorite type of creature has to be bugs, and to be honest, I haven’t really read all that much involving them besides a few on bugs native to my region.
It doesn’t matter if it’s fantasy, sci-fi, academic pieces or whatever, I just want books involving bugs that people recommend.

The Bees by Laline Paull
Children of Time — Adrian Tchaikovsky
I think it’s out of print, but I read The Collectors by Robert Carter back when I was in middle school and have not been able to stop thinking about it. I found it used on Ebay years later and the writing is meh, but the premise is still fascinating (traditional middle grade-ish adventure epic, from the perspective of a member of a roach colony).

The Sting of the Wild – nonfiction by an entomologist who studied bees, wasps and ants and endured so many stings in the name of science that he created a sting pain rating system. Also his enthusiasm about these insects is contagious. One of my favorite nonfiction books.
