European History Books?

Hi there, I felt like US school history curriculum is quite bad for teaching history, and there's a lot that I missed because of it. So I am trying to make a list of books from across the world to get a better understanding. I've already asked for US history books, so the next question is for European history books.

My main focus is the war era. I've heard that finding accurate cold war era books, mainly for the Eastern Bloc, is really hard. But if there's also some good books for the World Wars/interwar period, that'd be neat as well.

After that, anything modern history would be nice.

Then like the time of the industrial revolution and French revolution. Renaissance and colonial beginnings and stuff. Middle Ages and the Byzantine Empire. Ancient Rome/Greece. And then the times before that.

Basically this list is mostly just ordered by what I see to be most important to learn. But any book suggestions help.
