Looking for books which tell “The truth behind the legend”

Hey all, this is a fairly specific request but I've found that I enjoy a particular brand of historical fiction, which takes mythical or legendary events and gives us the story grounded in a real historical setting, albeit often with speculative gaps filled in. Examples include the Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell about the Arthurian mythos, The King must Die by Mary Renault about Theseus or the Agamemnon series by George Shipway. Happy to experience any historical setting and I don't mind a bit of ambiguous supernatural elements although I'd generally prefer it hew closer to historical fiction than outright fantasy.
