the secret garden really did something with how the garden itself felt like a character that was waking up alongside mary. also annihilation has this creepy plant-takeover vibe that made me super uncomfortable in best way possible
when i’m sketching old botanical illustrations from like victorian era, you can see how people back then really saw plants as having personalities too

*The Ruins*, by Scott Smith.

House of Roots and Ruin by Erin A. Craig (it’s the sequel to House of Salt and Sorrows which definitely does have to be read first, but the series is great, so it’s totally worth it!)
Also, The Depths by Nicole Lesperance. The setting of the story is lush and beautiful and totally alive.
