The midnight library. You might struggle with the start but it’s phenomenal. Talking about life decisions and possibilities
Sorry you’re feeling this way and going through this. I don’t know if it helps to know that there are better things in store and things and people can improve. Just set your own metrics for happiness and success, i guess.
I found Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh very helpful for navigating my own mental health issues – I recognised myself in a lot of it. Jenny Lawson too if you want to feel you’ve got allies.
David Sedaris always makes me laugh and he’s come through some rough times himself – Santaland Diaries or Dress your Family or Me Talk Pretty One Day.
Bill Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods – about his attempts to hike the Appalachian trail always give me a wanderlust to get out in nature if that helps at all?
There’s loads of stuff if you want to read about someone having a worse time – misery memoirs or those ‘They were marooned at the North Pole and had to eat each other’ books if that is useful.
Kurt Vonnegut was helpful as a directionless teen realising that it’s all pointless/has only the point you give it – but it has been a long time since I read Slaughterhouse 5.
On a tangent – Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde is a quirky engaging little dystopia which will serve to distract you and if not remove your worries, give you new ones! Alternately reading the Discworld series is very comforting (not in a cosy way) funny and engaging – start with Guards! Guards! or Mort (Terry Pratchett) and any long series like that is comforting in having a constant to go back to, to disengage with RL troubles, to finish before doing anything rash and/or to find a community.
It may sound dumb, but go join a D&D* group in your area and read some Pratchett and you’ll develop friends, buddies or just people to chat to from that. Some groups are shitty, but you’ll find your people.
*Other RPGs are available. And better.
