I just had a conversation with my sister about clichés in books. Like, the protagonist who has this power no one else has and never trains, or only trains once, and is the best. Or that silly girl who reads and the CEO has loved her for years; all that stuff.
But neither of us has read books like that; somehow these ideas are ingrained in our collective subconscious. That said, have you read books like this? The most cliché book you can remember. The more cliché and terrible, the better.
Right now the most cliché thing I can think of is After. But what about you?

lmao yeah after is peak cringe territory
i feel like most of the really cliche stuff gets filtered out before we even pick it up, but twilight was probably my first encounter with the “ordinary girl is actually super special and everyone wants her” thing. also read this one fantasy series where the main character literally had no training but could somehow outfight people who trained their whole lives because of ~natural talent~
the thing that gets me is how these tropes are everywhere in fanfiction too, like we all know theyre terrible but somehow they keep showing up. maybe theres something weirdly satisfying about the predictability
