I’m usually an avid, prolific reader but in the 14 weeks since my kiddo was born, I have been moving so slowly through books and dnf’d a couple that I think I would have otherwise loved. I know I’m probably just very tired and my mental load is real heavy right now, but I miss being addicted to picking up my kindle. I’m hoping you all might have some suggestions.
The few I’ve really enjoyed have been:
Second Life by Amanda Hess
Strangers by Bell Burden
Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams
I’m currently reading and enjoying Alphabet of Thorn by Patricia A McKillip which gives me hope for my relationship with fiction. I think I am looking for original, engrossing fiction that’s not too long – fantasy and romance totally welcome – that’s also light (ie. no children in peril) or juicy non-fiction with some modern world resonance.
When I wasn’t a brand-new mom, I loved Victoria Goddard, golden age of mysteries stuff, also hidden gem mysteries that you would find in paperback at the grocery store in the nineties (Patricia Moyes), cerebral memoirs, historical romance, T Kingfisher, Kate Atkinson, gothic (both the classics and modern takes), sci-fi that takes women seriously, and so on and so forth. A lot of that seems daunting now? This is all to say, SOS and thank you kindly in advance.
